NEW AMSTERDAM
(1609-1664) Our journey starts on Governors Island, in the middle of New York Harbor. Join the voyage of the Half Moon in 1609 as it entered New York Bay, amid the battle for control of the New World. You will move on to Downtown Manhattan, “purchased” in 1624 on behalf of the Dutch West India Company by Peter Minuit from the Leni Lenape and walk the footprint of the first 31 families of New Amsterdam. Travel south towards The West Village, to the grave, and purported haunt, of Peter “Peg Leg” Stuyvesant.
